Kirk Whetstone, MD
Dr. Whetstone is a dual board-certified physician specializing in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with a subspecialty in Interventional Pain Management and a clinical focus on spine and joint care. He is the founder and medical director of PNW Spine and Joint Physicians in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Whetstone completed his medical degree at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio where he graduated with honors including election to Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society. He completed residency and fellowship at The University of Washington in Seattle.
Dr. Whetstone has practiced in the field of spine and joint care since 2014 both in private practice and for a large health care system. He was inspired to start PNW Spine and Joint Physicians to provide a level of service and individualized treatment that is less common in traditional medical care today. He places a large emphasis on communication and providing the highest level of expertise available. The ultimate goal of his practice is a focus on improving patient function and quality of life. Dr. Whetstone is a member of national organizations including Spine Intervention Society (SIS) and Interventional Orthobiologic Foundation (IOF). Dr. Whetstone is a regular invited guest lecturer on spine and joint topics but is also a lifelong learner who pursues ongoing dialogue and training with other leaders in the field to stay on the forefront of his specialty.
Dr. Whetstone was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio and is a “Buckeye” at heart but fell in love with the culture and landscape of the Pacific Northwest. He lives in Portland with his husband and dog. He spends free time cooking, trying new restaurants, hiking, camping, playing tennis, traveling, and playing in recreational sports leagues.
